Doctor in West Hollywood Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking Prescription Pills

James Eisenberg, a medical doctor who has an office in West Hollywood has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges. He was accused of unlawfully writing numerous prescriptions for controlled substances after his physician's registration was revoked, which suspended his ability to prescribe drugs.

He entered his guilty plea in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. He was charged with distribution of hydrocodone, also known as Vicodin.

The United States Attorney's Office said that in December, 2011, a DEA administrative judge decided that the doctor was acting a as drug dealer and suspended his registration number. After this decision, the Drug Enforcement Administration issued an order that permanently revoked his doctor's registration in July, 2012. However, even though he was prohibited from issuing prescriptions, he continued to prescribe a wide variety of controlled substances in huge numbers.

A database that keeps track of prescriptions indicated that his patients filled over 1,600 prescriptions that he wrote, which included over 1,000 prescriptions for hydrocodone.
