A commercial truck driver wanted for a brutal sexual assault of a woman in Castaic in 2009 was in custody in Santa Clarita, California after being extradited from New York.
Eugene Lee Upshaw was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station after Steuben County sheriff's deputies arrested him in upstate New York.
Upshaw, who was previously convicted for burglary in Texas in 1995 and sex crimes in New Mexico in 1991, now faces nine felony counts of sexual assault, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, rape, sodomy and other sex crimes, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
The charges stem from an Aug. 20, 2009, incident when Upshaw allegedly asked the victim for a ride. She agreed if he would buy her a bottle of alcohol. Upshaw then allegedly drove her car to a remote dirt road in Castaic where he raped her. He was being held on a $10 million bond.
