Drug Offenders had 600 Pounds of Marijuana
According to news sources, twelve people were arrested after they tried to distribute drugs in Chicago. The accused individuals allegedly tried to distribute 600 pounds of marijuana that was brought into Chicago from the state of California and also Canada.
The prosecutor presiding over the case, State's Attorney Joe Birkett, said that the people were charged with drug crimes after law enforcement had conducted a yearlong investigation known as "Operation Chicago Haze".
Attorney Birkett worked alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration, the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group and local law enforcement agencies while conducting the in-depth investigation. He told news sources that aside from making twelve arrests, the investigation also led to the seizure of $1 million, eleven vehicles, five weapons and literally tons of marijuana.
The defendants are facing drug possession and drug smuggling charges at this time.
